Embracing the “That Girl” routine seems to be all the buzz for the past few years. But have you ever wondered how taking a unique approach to this trend can be the stepping stone you need?
Ready to find out how?
Let’s get started.
What is the deal with having “That Girl” trend?
Being “That Girl” has taken the internet by storm. Particularly, this may be because of the aesthetic that comes with a particular look.
As aesthetically pleasing as this routine may seem, it may not be as realistic for everyone.
But hold on, I have created a great and simple guide to help put a fresh twist on this trend.
However, before diving into making this trend your own, a little bit of background information is important.
What does the “That Girl” routine entail?
In case you missed it, fret not, I’ll briefly let you in on what the “that girl “trend is about.
According to Urban Dictionary, this routine is a lifestyle that embodies certain habits and routines to help women live an organized life that appears to be effortlessly smooth and productive.
So, this trend involves inspiring women to be their best selves in all spheres of life: work, fitness, beauty, and the like.
Additionally, this aesthetic emphasises how your daily life routine should flow perfectly without bumps.
What is the purpose of the “That Girl” trend?
Having life together sounds like a dream. Additionally, social media seems to market this trend as the boost you need to get there.
That’s the thing about social media, it’s there to make us think that it’s achievable for everyone. From my experience, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Having a routine because of this trend’s components may seem harmless, but unfortunately, that’s not the case for everyone.
But before you throw the idea away, this trend can have an advantage.
The pros of the “That Girl” aesthetic
The few pros I found about this trend include that this can be a source of inspiration for some people, including me.
I mean, who doesn’t want to feel motivated to get up every day and just be the best version of themselves?
Many of us desire to unleash our inner powerhouse.
And for those who have not arrived there yet, this trend could, potentially, be just the source of motivation they need to get there.
Although this trend has pros, it’s just as important to consider the cons as well.
The downside of the “That Girl” routine
Although there are some good things to this “That girl” aesthetic, it may not be the same experience for everyone.
Chasing trends can often become burdens that may take a chunk out of your mental health.
Bearing that in mind, let’s see what cons come with this.
1. The “That Girl” aesthetic isn’t realistic for everyone
When I went on social media to look up what this trend was about, I came across a common factor.
While this aesthetic showcases the idea of a productive life, the way this may be out of touch for many.
How so?
The images and scenes displayed in “That Girl” routine are often depicted from a luxurious standpoint. And that is something not everyone could experience.
2. The “That Girl” routine may drain your self-esteem
With an aesthetic on the internet, it can typically come across as a one-size-fits-all approach.
Additionally, if you’re familiar with this trend, you may have noticed how these women who seem to be at the forefront of this trend typically look the same.
However, constantly seeing that doesn’t make this routine accommodating. Because of this factor, this trend lost points in my eyes.
Furthermore, it fuels more societal issues, such as body image.
All of this can be a punch to your self-esteem and worse, could lead to deep issues such as self-hatred.
3. The “That Girl” routine can be expensive to maintain
Because of the possible negative effects this trend can have on one’s self-esteem, this can eventually trickle into your mental health.
Not meeting the aesthetic standards can create unnecessary stress.
Whether it’s being pressured to ensure that your body looks the same as the shape you see, buying expensive food deemed to be “super healthy”, portion control, or purchasing expensive skincare and make-up products.
4. The “That girl” trend can harm your mental health
All of these can amplify anxiety because let’s face it, our looks and lifestyles are not the same. That sounds stressful. And we don’t want that, do we?
But don’t throw the towel just yet because you can still take the “That girl” routine and make it work for you.
I’ve compiled a list of tips to make this trend work for you.
How to become “That Girl” using a 5 step routine with a fresh twist
Although I mentioned the downside of this trend a bit extensively, I don’t want to leave a damper on your spirit because the good news is that you still can positively make use of this trend, no matter what lifestyle you live.
Check out these steps to find out how to become “That Girl” today.
1. Know that you are a unique gem, girl!
I would first like to bring a new perspective to you. You need to know that you are that girl already.
How so? It’s simple, you were crafted by God Himself.
And when He made you, He intended you to have some uniqueness too.
Trying to fit into society’s ever-changing beauty and aesthetics can be overwhelming, but it’s something you don’t have to aspire to.
Your natural beauty is breathtaking, and you need to embrace it.
You are complete just the way you are, and you don’t need to rely on passing trends to feel that way.
2. Draw inspiration from the “That girl “trend and add and adapt to your routine
If, after looking into the trend maybe you see that it’s something you like. That’s great.
But remember that you don’t have to be a copycat and feel free to add to your spin.
Whatever goals you decide to take from the trend, don’t feel pressured to follow exactly as you see by jumping headfirst.
Try to take small, manageable steps that fit right with your lifestyle.
So, for example, if using exclusively expensive beauty products is out of your budget, opt for affordable ones instead?
I’ve done that for myself, and I’m genuinely happy with what I have. Remember that your goals must accommodate you.
3. Stop comparing yourself
Sure, it’s easier said than done. I know the feeling. However, trying to do this is what counts. I have also been down that comparison rabbit hole, and it sucks.
So, because of this, I would strongly encourage you not to aspire to fit this aesthetic to a T.
Remember that this doesn’t have to be a one-size-fits-all guide. It’s about allowing these steps to add to your routine, not taking them away.
Instead, draw motivation from a healthy place and adapt it so it’s helpful to you instead of being a stumbling block.
4. Shower yourself with kindness
Once you know what goals you want to achieve, remember to go easy on yourself. How? Well, remember to be kind to yourself in the process.
So, consider a well-curated workout suitable for you, buy effective skincare and make-up products that you can afford and enjoy, and eat healthy in such a way that you find joy in your meals instead of feeling like you’re on a boring diet.
Also, spoil yourself with less materialistic products by doing things like taking time off for the day to just chill. Show yourself some love as you work towards developing your routine.
5. Embrace gratitude
Let’s face it, sometimes the world can make us feel like we are always lacking something. And the “That girl” aesthetic on social media can become a contributing factor.
But taking a moment to appreciate all of God’s blessings can be just the cherry on top you need to add spark to your self-care and personal growth journey.
Therefore, take time out to thank Him and watch the joy that erupts inside.
